8 Fun Ways to Beat the Winter Blues - Elm Tree Hotel

The winter months can get pretty dreary with the cold weather, grey skies and shorter days. It is no surprise that people often find themselves in a bit of an emotional slump when they are cooped up at home while the rest of the world is out enjoying themselves. The key to staying positive during this time of year is to find ways to keep yourself occupied and distracted from negative emotions as much as possible. Luckily, there are plenty of winter activities that will help you beat the winter blues and lift your spirits again. We recommend a trip to the seaside to reinvigorate a sense of wonder within yourself, and while on a much needed escape to beat the January blues, you can stay at one of
Llandudno’s fabulous boutique hotels along the seafront..

1) Go for an outdoor activity

Winter can feel isolating and dreary, so going for a walk or running errands outside is a favourite way to beat it. The fresh air and exercise help boost your mood. We recommend the Great Orme overlooking Llandudno. You can take comfort in nature, explore the caves and enjoy the spectacular views out to sea. If this does not appeal, there are many other activities in Llandudno.

2) Eat your favourite comfort food

Whether it is mac and cheese, lasagne or roast chicken with mashed potatoes, sometimes you just need something warm and delicious. Thankfully, Llandudno has plenty of fantastic places to grab a bite to eat. We love heading to Snooze, which offers some wonderful menu options. See some of our other recommendations.

3) Read a book

Reading a book is one of the best ways to spend a cold winter day indoors. If you are stuck inside, warm up by picking up a great read and getting cosy. Books can take you to any time and place you can imagine. Many guests enjoy spending time in our spacious and airy lounge to enjoy a good book during their stay.

4) Get warm and toasty

Those winter blues are a real thing. Research shows that as temperatures fall, so does your mood. But it does not have to be that way. Get snuggled up on your couch or sofa. Our well appointed rooms have lovely furnishings and are kept warm and cosy throughout the winter months.

5) Take a little photography trip outdoors

When days are shorter and nights are longer, it is easy to get cabin fever. When you do head outside, take your camera with you. You will have fun taking photos of everything from the glorious seaside town’s seafront and winter wildlife to trees coated in snow. Getting outside is also a wonderful way to connect with nature and relieve stress.

6) Nip into town

There are so many things to do in Llandudno town. Stroll along the seafront, enjoy a hot coffee, browse the shops for something new or simply admire the winter ambience. Winter has a special feeling that is worth experiencing for yourself.

7) Watch a movie

Renting a movie and snuggling up on your couch or bed can be a lovely way to spend time with someone special on a cold winter day. The perfect winter movie should include plenty of laughs and leave you feeling warm and cosy as you begin counting down to spring.

8) Give yourself permission to slow down and relax

We all feel a little guilty taking it easy on cold days and weekends, but sometimes we just need to put our feet up and enjoy some rest. Sipping tea by a fire while reading a book is one of life’s great pleasures, and if you live in colder climates, where else are you going to get warm.
