We can advise a range of local walks, and we have decided to put together a few in this blog. These are shorter walks where you can visit in an hour or two – perfect for some fresh air whether its in the height of summer or on those cold winter days! The photos provided are taken year round, but you are in for a big surprise if you manage to visit when there is a dusting of snow over the landscape!
Conwy Mountain
Overlooking the castle town of Conwy is its eponymous mountain which commands glorious views over the local landscape. You can see everything from Snowdonia to the Great Orme from this outstanding vista. While it indeed has amazing views that need to be seen to be believed, it is also not so much of a taxing walk and you may only need an hour or two out of your day in order to conquer it.
RSPB Conwy
This little marshy wonderland on the shores of the Conwy estuary has views up to the mountain passageway of Snowdonia, and views of the Castle from a low but distant level. This is an ideal location to nip away to if you have a great love of birds, as it is a haven for feathered friends of all shapes and sizes. The location also has a lovely cafe where you can grab a hot cup of tea or coffee to keep you powered throughout the day.
Great Orme
The Great Orme is perhaps one of North Wales’ most famous attractions. This is thanks to the prominent location of Llandudno’s headland, and its historical significance as the oldest Bronze Age Mine System in Europe.
Little Orme
The Great Orme’s smaller sibling might be smaller, but that doesn’t mean it is any less fantastic. In fact, this promontory is well known to be a haven for wildlife of all shapes and sizes. Particularly ( and perhaps most notably) it is the home of a colony of Grey Seals which paddle in the shallows of the bay and lounge around on the beach while their pub’s dance and play in the water. You can also see a variety of avian life that is absolutely abundant on the cliffs and in the trees of this green seaside garden.
West Shore Beach
One of Llandudno’s twin shores, this sandy beach sports lovely sand dunes covered in green reeds, wide open swathes of sand to explore and, in the right conditions, azure blue oceans that glisten in the daylight. You will also be pleased to know that there is a large car park that you can park on, or simply walk directly from our hotel which is located on the southern flanks of the Great Orme, just a 20-minute stroll away on the other side of town.
North Shore
Of course, no list would be complete without Llandudno’s iconic victorian seafront which is lined up along the amazing North Shore. This beach has by far one of the most amazing views thanks to its location between the Great and Little Ormes. Enjoy this fantastic stroll for yourself after a hearty breakfast at the Elm Tree Hotel. Bodnant Gardens
This is one we always recommend to guests. Bodnant Garden is open all year round and is home to a great abundance of life that has a different look altogether in the winter months.
Winter is no reason to be put off talking a stroll in the North Wales wilderness. Thanks to the myriad of shorter winter walks that we have locally available, you’d be hard-pressed to find a reason not to go!
