As the weather starts to cool off, it can feel like there’s not much to do outside anymore. But don’t despair—the autumn season brings lots of fun opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors! While staying at the Elm Tree Llandudno, it’s easy to make autumn an incredibly exciting time of year. Here are some ideas on what to do in the autumn in the wonderland of North Wales.

1) Go on a Hike

The beauty of fall has a way of putting everyone into an ecstatic mood. There’s nothing like crisp weather, vibrant colours and pungent smells to lift your spirits. While there are many ways to enjoy autumn, nothing beats getting outside for a walk. It’s great exercise, gives you time alone with nature and helps you appreciate all that Mother Nature has given us. Don’t have hiking boots? No problem! Just use some sturdy outdoor trainers or boots that can handle wet surfaces—and make sure they have decent tread. If you plan on going up the mighty hills of Snowdonia, however, then you need to get yourself some proper walking boots!

2) Look at the Autumn Foliage at Bodnant Gardens, Wales

The trees at Bodnant Garden in Wales are covered with orange and red leaves during autumn, so much so that it’s become one of Britain’s most popular tourist attractions. Tucked away off A541, only 7 miles from Llandudno, Bodnant Gardens is an absolute delight for autumn enthusiasts. Bodnant Garden also has a storied history. The gardens are especially beautiful during October when visitors can see all shades of orange and gold amongst an array of trees. It’s well worth taking a break from sitting inside watching TV to head out and soak up the vibrant colours—and don’t forget your camera to snap some of the burning beauty yourself! There are other national trust properties to discover in the area too.

3) Spend time at the local farmers market

If you can, time your trip with harvest season. Most farmers markets run during certain parts of summer and fall, so if you know when your favourite fruits or vegetable is in the season at the local farmers market, give it a shot!

We recommend Conwy farmer’s market – this year (2021) you can visit on the 27th of October and the 24th of November from 9 AM to 1 PM.

4) Sample some craft beer

We are lucky to be located near some fantastic craft ale locations – if that’s what you fancy! Wild Horse Brewery is located on Builder’s Street in Llandudno and provides some amazing beers straight from the tap! You can also take away a crate of goodies for those special people back home or to save for another autumn night! Local bars and restaurants are also known to provide Wild Horse on tap too!

5) Go for a warming coffee

There’s nothing like a hot coffee on a cold day – and there’s no better place for a warming brew than a local cafe. You can enjoy a coffee with a friend or take it on the go! You could combine this with some of the previous activities – exploring the autumnal landscape with a hot coffee in hand is a dream come true. We recommend grabbing coffee and walking along the Conwy Estuary or Llandudno’s seafront. We also have a great coffee machine here at the Elm Tree too – we know that life is too short for bad coffee and we work to make sure it is the best.
