The winter months can get pretty dreary with the cold weather, grey skies, and shorter days. It’s no surprise that people often find themselves in a bit of an emotional slump when they’re cooped up at home all day long while the rest of the world is out enjoying themselves. The key to staying positive during this time of year is to find ways to keep yourself occupied and distracted from your negative emotions as much as possible. Luckily, there are plenty of winter activities that will help you beat the winter blues and put you in a good mood again!
1) Go for an activity outside
Winter can feel isolating and dreary, so going for a walk or running errands outside is one of the favourite ways to beat it. The fresh air and exercise also help boost your mood! We recommend the Great Orme overlooking Llandudno! You can take comfort in nature, explore the many caves and experience the spectacular views out to sea. If this doesn’t tickle your fancy, there are a plethora of other activities in Llandudno.
2) Eat your favourite comfort food
Whether it’s mac and cheese, lasagna, or a roast chicken with mashed potatoes, sometimes you just need something warm and delicious. Thankfully, Llandudno has plenty of fantastic places to grab a bite to eat – we love heading to Snooze, which offers some wonderful menu options. Check out some of the other recommendations we have for you.
3) Read a book
Reading a book is one of the best ways to spend a cold winter day indoors. If you’re stuck inside, warm up by picking up a great read and getting cosy! Books can take us to any time and place you can possibly imagine!
4) Get warm and toasty
Those winter blues are a real thing. Research shows that as temperatures fall, so does your mood. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Get snuggled up warm on your couch or sofa!
5) Take photos outdoors
When days are shorter and nights are longer, it’s easy to get cabin fever. When you do want to head outside, take your camera with you! You’ll have fun taking photos of everything from animals in their winter coats to trees coated in snow. Getting outside is also an amazing way to connect with nature and relieve stress.
6) Nip into town!
There are so many things to do in Llandudno town – stroll along the seafront, go and get yourself a hot coffee, hit the shops for some new clothing, or just admire the winter ambience.
7) Watch a movie
Renting a movie and snuggling up on your couch or bed can be a great way to enjoy some time with that special someone on a cold winter day. The perfect movie for your winter’s night should include plenty of laughs and leave you feeling warm and cosy as you begin counting down until spring.
8) Give yourself permission to slow down and relax
We all feel a little guilty taking it easy on cold days and weekends, but sometimes we just need to put our feet up and catch up on a little rest. Sipping tea by a fire while reading a book is one of life’s great pleasures—and if you live in colder climes, where else are you going to get warm?
